Eckart Altenkamp my
neighbour will be trading the comfort of a chair for 5 days in the
saddle. Eckart is embarking on the crossing of the Simpson Desert, a bike
race where 25 riders cover 580 km, across 1,200 sand dunes, in 5 days from
Burni Bore, SA (a tin shed) along the French Line to Birdsville (QLD).
Between
those 2 locations he certainly won’t find an office chair, there will be
no chairs at all, he will find absolutely nothing. No settlement, no
house, no shower, no toilet, just an expanse of desert.
Why is
he doing it, well he wants to and Ekki will raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service in the
process.. (RFDS) provides the finest care to more than 290,000
Australians each year – that’s one person every two minutes. ICE is proud to be
part of it and has contributed to Eckki’s endeavour.
